Serge Lifar Fundation

We are extremely honored to announce that the Serge Lifar Foundation is supporting our event.

Serge Lifar

Serge Lifar, born in kyiv on April 2, 1905, and died in Lausanne on December 15, 1986.

A dancer of great physical beauty and a radiant presence, he was a dancer with Sergei Diaghilev’s Ballets Russes from 1923 to 1929.

A French pedagogue, one of the most important of his generation, he was a reformer of dance movement and technique.

A choreographer of 56 neoclassical ballets, including Suite en Blanc, still included in the current repertoire of the Paris Opera.

Appointed Ballet Master of the Paris Opera from 1930 to 1944 and from 1947 to 1958, he worked to restore the technical level of the Paris Opera Ballet, making it, in the 1930s and to this day, one of the best in the world.

The Serge Lifar Foundation was created on August 23, 1989, after Serge Lifar’s death, by Countess Lillan Ahlefeldt-Laurvig, his faithful companion for over 30 years and his sole legatee.

The Foundation’s general purpose is to continue the work in favor of choreographic art carried out by Serge Lifar during his lifetime, and to protect, defend, and perpetuate his name and memory.
